The Oracle's Cave
The Oracle's Cave is an adventure game in which you type various single letter commands with the keyboard and watch a sideways animation of your actions with the screen scrolling in various directions. You play the role of an adventurer who is trapped at the entrance of an Oracle's cave complex and the only way out is to traverse The Oracle's Cave on level four within five days. You have a choice of four quests that have you collect a certain amount of treasure while collecting certain treasures guarded by The Mummy, The Centaur, The Burning Dragon or The Black Knight.
You have several actions that can be selected and they are moving (left, right, up, up, down and secret passage), resting, using an item, exploring the surroundings, helping and leaving the game. The items you have on your person include healing items, magic ring (invisibility), rope and key. You can also find weapons to help you when fighting creatures and people and they are dagger, axe and sword. You start with 12 units of energy and no wounds, and other stats you can see are weapons, combat, treasure and items. There is also a map that shows the key areas of most of the rooms are hidden and can only be seen when you enter them.
When you move through the caves, this expends energy and exploring the caves can help or hurt you and should be used with caution. You will encounter creatures and people guarding treasures and you can either fight them or run away. The computer decides the outcome each time you attack and you keep attacking until you flee or kill it. You can also accumulate wounds that lower your energy and if your energy is too low or the wounds are too high, then you are too weak to continue and are transported to a safe cave to recover. Here you can rest and decide how long in hours as anywhere in the cave complex, but remember you only have five days to complete the game.
