Alien Arcade
Alien Arcade is a collection of full screen desktop games aimed at younger gamers. All games are controlled with the mouse, and all have the same theme of aliens and outer space. The graphics are colorful and cartoonish, and the arcade action is designed to be non-violent and child-friendly. Each game has its own scoreboard.
Ctrl-P is used to pause a game, Ctrl-A to stop playing the current game and choose another, and Ctrl-Q to exit Alien Arcade completely. The games run at a resolution of 640x480 pixels, but only a 512x342 pixel screen area is used for games. Outside of it is a static border with background art (such as the surface of a planet or the interior of a spaceship) that changes randomly each time you play.
There are six games in the collection. Andromedroids: in this game you build robots piece by piece by dropping them into one of seven assembly garbage cans. There is also a recycling garbage can for dropping unused pieces, and a special garbage can for dropping any Mercurian metal bugs that may appear. Dropping the bugs in any other garbage can will damage your robot parts.
Mushroom patrol: you control a ship in the center of the screen that can only rotate, but if you click the mouse, the ship shoots out in a straight line with a bungee cord, touches the edge of the screen and then returns to the center. Green mushrooms invade you from the edges of the screen, and you knock them off by hitting them with your ship, which has a large suction nozzle at the front. The fungus can damage your bungee cord, and if it eats it completely, it's game over.
Nerdoids: you control a ship at the bottom of the screen that can only move left and right, and shoots comics. On the screen, in several levels, orange aliens with glasses move. If you hit an alien with a comic book, it will start reading it. If you hit an alien that is already reading a comic book with another comic book, it will drop the one it is holding. The goal is for all aliens to continue reading a comic book when they leave the screen. The aliens will also randomly drop calculators and pocket protectors, which can subtract 5 comics from your arsenal if they hit you.
Quasar Klutzes: you control a ship at the bottom of the screen that can only move left and right, and shoots bananas. There are blue aliens that walk back and forth in various levels. The aliens are clumsy and will slip on the bananas, or two aliens may collide trying to grab the same banana. They will then start falling towards the bottom of the screen, but if they hit your ship while falling you will lose 5 bananas. Your goal is to make all the aliens fall. There is also a robot dog that sometimes appears and drops gas clouds that subtract 2 bananas from your ship if they hit you.
Quasar Rain: this game takes place 'below' Quasar Klutzes. Blue aliens and banana peels rain down from the top of the screen, and you control a spring-loaded platform that slides left and right at the bottom of the screen. When an alien hits you, it flies off into a wall of bunk beds on the left side of the screen. The goal is to avoid dropping 3 aliens from the bottom of the screen (although the instructions claim that the fallen aliens will be caught by a safety net, just outside the screen) and also to avoid banana peels, as they cause you to lose points.
Stink Snakes of Saturn: you control a ship on the left edge of the screen that can only move up and down, and shoots cakes. Yellow snakes appear from the right and slither towards you. If you hit a snake with a pie, it turns into a smiley face, which you can collect for bonus points. You have a limited number of pies. If a pie misses, it will bounce back to you and you can pick it up again. However, if a snake overtakes you to the left edge of the screen, you lose 5 pies. When you have no pies left, the game is over.
