Nyet 3: The Revenge of the Mutant Stones
Nyet 3, one of the best and most original Tetris clones, makes the basic game of lining up falling blocks much more fun with the addition of money, which is collected by beating a level, and many power-ups.
MobyGames' longer description says it all: 'At its core, Nyet 3 is a Tetris clone. However, it adds a lot of variations to that venerable classic. The game is divided into 7 sets of 18 levels, and allows the player to go through the levels of a set in any order. To clear a level, the player must make a set number of rows disappear, just like in any other Tetris clone.
The difference is in the levels themselves. Some levels may have invisible blocks, others an indestructible snake that the player has to catch before he has a chance to make a row disappear. For beating a level, the player receives money, the amount of which depends on how well he did during the game and the difficulty of the level. The money can be used to buy power-ups, of which there is a wide variety. Some power-ups are permanent, such as the monitors that anticipate the next block.
Others are linked to function keys on the keyboard and can be activated at any time during the game. These range from level-type specific power-ups, such as the Fork, which catches a snake, to general power-ups such as the Bomb, which destroys the top row of squares. To save the game, the player must also buy a power-up'.
A must-have game for all Tetris fans: two thumbs up!
