Mutant Earth is a shareware platformer with many similarities to titles such as Duke Nukem II, Bio Menace or Space Chase. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where a survivor named Rock Tempest surfaces to find it ravaged and filled with hostile mutant life forms. He must overcome various obstacles and traps and fight his way to safety on his own.
All the typical elements of the genre are present in the game. The player runs through the levels in two dimensions, collects useful items, accesses cards and ammunition for weapons and fights monsters. In addition to the single-player story mode, Mutant Earth allows network multiplayer games with up to 8 players via IPX.
The shareware version includes only one level, with single-player and network play available.
