Albatross 2: Masters' History

MSX 1989
Albatross 2: Masters' History is a classic MSX game that was released in 1989. Developed and published by Konami, this game was a sequel to the popular Albatross game and was met with great anticipation from fans. Set in a futuristic world, Albatross 2: Masters' History follows the adventures of a skilled pilot on a mission to defeat the alien forces that threaten planet Earth. The game was a huge hit among MSX users for its impressive graphics and engaging gameplay. The visuals were a significant improvement from its predecessor, making the game much more visually appealing. The attention to detail in the game's design was evident as players maneuvered through various stages, each with its unique challenges and enemies. One of the main highlights of Albatross 2: Masters' History was its diverse range of weapons and upgrades. Players could equip their spaceship with different weapons, including lasers, missiles, and bombs, to take down their enemies. Moreover, the game also featured power-ups such as shields and speed boosters, which provided an extra layer of strategy for players to consider. A standout feature of the game was its boss battles. Each level ended with a challenging boss battle that required quick reflexes and precise aiming. These battles were a test of skill for players and posed a significant challenge to overcome. The intense and fast-paced nature of these boss fights added an extra layer of excitement to the game. Music and sound effects played a significant role in creating an immersive experience for players. The game's soundtrack was a combination of electronic and futuristic sounds that perfectly complemented the game's theme. The sound effects, on the other hand, were crisp and added an extra touch of realism to the gameplay. One aspect that made Albatross 2: Masters' History stand out was its replay value. The game featured multiple paths and endings, depending on the player's performance. This encouraged players to replay the game multiple times to achieve the best possible outcome. It also added a layer of unpredictability, making each playthrough a unique experience.

American Truck

MSX, PC-88 1985
American Truck is a top-down racing and driving game. In each stage you will have to reach the finish line before you run out of gas or time. Additional gasoline can be acquired by collecting the gasoline items that appear randomly on the road, but be careful, bombs also appear randomly. Also, you have to avoid collisions with other traffic, such as cars and trucks, and do not go off the road or crash into walls.

Avenger

A devastating atomic war wiped out the largest cities on Earth and most of its population. Anarchy reigned, with different military organizations fighting each other in a new war for dominance. One of these organizations eventually took control of the planet, establishing itself as a tyrannical government and using advanced technology for military purposes. Only a lone pilot can save humanity from their clutches. . . Avenger is a vertical scrolling shooter, in which the player navigates a plane through levels populated by hostile aircraft, tanks, guns, cannons, ships, stationary devices and huge boss enemies. Before each mission, the player can choose between different weapons from three categories: main, secondary and special. Primary and secondary weapons fire simultaneously and have unlimited ammunition, while powerful special attacks are accessed by pressing a different button and are limited. The player can try any combination of the three categories, for example powering up the main rocket launcher with a pod that fires lasers at the sides as a secondary weapon, and a protective shield as a special. The power-ups change properties quickly, so the player has to pick them up at a certain time to upgrade the main weapon, the secondary weapon or the special weapon. These power-ups do not change the properties of a weapon, but give it additional firepower.

Browning

A mysterious organization has built an artificial island in the Atlantic Ocean, christening it 'Sea Square'. They have then started producing giant combat robots, evidently ready to build an entire army and become the most dominant military power on Earth. It's time to stop them! The young hero, who pilots a giant combat robot of his own, is sent to Sea Square for precisely that reason. . . Browning is a side-scrolling shooter. The player controls the giant robot, equipped with a single gun (with unlimited ammo), and must fight waves of enemies (mostly of the robotic type), and eventually the stage boss. Short cutscenes appear between stages. The player-controlled robot has the ability to float in the air (the player has to repeatedly press a button for the robot to maintain altitude). The robot's life points depend on the state of its shield. When the robot is stationary, the shield energy is slowly recharged. Total loss of shield energy makes the robot so vulnerable that the next hit destroys it. The player has unlimited continues, but must return to the beginning of the phase each time the robot is destroyed.

Cosmic Fantasy 2

Van is a young man living on the planet Idea, a place where technology has not yet reached a high level. One day his sweetheart Laura is kidnapped by an unknown villain. Van soon discovers that Laura possesses mysterious powers that can grant immortality to whoever marries her. That is exactly what the evil wizard Galam has in mind. Van sets off to rescue Laura, on a quest that involves intergalactic and time travel. Cosmic Fantasy 2 is a sequel to Cosmic Fantasy: Bōken Shōnen Yuu, and the only installment of the series to be released in the West. Although initially not directly related to its predecessor in terms of story, the game features several common characters and themes. Like the previous game, it is a Japanese-style RPG set in a mixed sci-fi and medieval world. The game features random enemy encounters and simple turn-based combat mechanics. Player-controlled characters can learn and use various offensive and healing spells; however, enemies are limited to physical attacks. Characters join and leave the party frequently, as the plot dictates; the party can contain up to four active combatants. Story progression and world exploration is linear; dungeons are often quite complex and labyrinthine. Full-screen anime-style cutscenes with voice-overs advance the game's story.

Cosmic Fantasy 3: Bōken Shōnen Rei

Somewhere on the beautiful planet Aira, in a small town of Toto, lives a young man named Rei. Rei possesses unique spiritual powers, with which he can cure diseases. One day, Rei is ordered to go to Tristan, the royal capital, where he is needed. It seems like a simple journey, but soon after Rei meets the cat Nyan, who is stranded on Aira after a hostile encounter with Burakki, Gorokki and Chorokki, intergalactic feline travelers with unknown intentions. The boy realizes that his powers might be needed to help the heroes of the previous Cosmic Fantasy installments, and confront the mysterious Garudo, who has recently arrived on Aira, hatching an evil plan. Cosmic Fantasy 3: Bōken Shōnen Rei is the third installment in the science fiction role-playing series Cosmic Fantasy. It is a traditional Japanese-style RPG with turn-based combat and first-person perspective. Enemies appear randomly. Rei and other party members can execute various types of physical attacks and techniques in battles, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The game features anime-style cutscenes with voiceover. Instead of separate locations linked by a traditional 'world map', the game has a continuous world, in which locations are seamlessly connected to each other.

Cosmic Fantasy 4: Ginga Shōnen Densetsu - Gekitō-hen

1994, the year Cosmic Fantasy 4: Ginga Shōnen Densetsu - Gekitō-hen was released on TurboGrafx CD. Made by Shin-Nihon Laser Soft Co., Ltd. and published by Telenet Japan Co., Ltd. this role-playing game (rpg) is available for free on this page.

Cosmic Fantasy: Bōken Shōnen Yū

In this first game of the Cosmic Fantasy series, the player controls a young adventurer named Yū, who travels through space alongside a robotic motorized cat named Monmo. One day, their spaceship crashes on an unknown planet. The heroes realize that the planet is at a much lower stage of civilization than their own space world, and resembles a medieval society. While visiting a village, Yū discovers that the kobold clan is threatening its inhabitants. What begins as a simple mission soon turns into a grand quest against an evil force, which will eventually lead Yū to realize his role as a Cosmic Knight, whose task is to defeat intergalactic evil and save the world. One of the first Japanese RPGs in CD format, Cosmic Fantasy: Bōken Shōnen Yū is a traditional representative of its genre, featuring game management, dungeon exploration, random enemy encounters, and turn-based combat. Characters fight using physical attacks, but later gain access to psychic techniques, which are equivalent to magic spells in comparable games. There are anime-style cutscenes with voice acting that advance the story.
