Star Soccer is a 1983 ZX Spectrum game developed and published by Don Priestley. The player controls a football team from one of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The object of the game is to score more goals than the opponent in a two-minute match.
There are four levels of difficulty, which affect the speed of the players and the number of goalkeepers. The game can be played against the computer or another human player.
Star Soccer was well received by critics. Your Spectrum magazine praised the game for its "addictive and challenging" gameplay. Crash magazine also gave the game a positive review, calling it "one of the best football games available".
Despite its positive reception, Star Soccer was not a commercial success. It was one of the many games released during the ZX Spectrum's "golden age" of gaming, and failed to stand out among the competition. Nevertheless, it is remembered fondly by those who played it and is considered a cult classic.
