Description Quasimodo

Quasimodo, the 1984 VIC-20 game, is an absolute gem of a game that has stood the test of time and continues to be a beloved classic amongst retro gamers. Developed by Creative Sparks and published by Commodore, Quasimodo is based on the famous novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" by Victor Hugo. This alone sets it apart from other games of its time, as it has a clear storyline and compelling characters.

The game follows the titular character, Quasimodo, as he navigates through the bustling streets of Paris, in the aftermath of the French Revolution. The player takes on the role of Quasimodo, who has been wrongly accused of a crime and must escape the city before he's captured by the authorities. Armed with only his wit and agility, players must guide Quasimodo through a series of challenges, ranging from scaling walls to solving puzzles, all while being pursued by guards.

One of the standout features of Quasimodo is its graphics. For a game released in 1984, the developers managed to create vibrant and detailed graphics that still hold up today. From the bustling streets of Paris to the imposing Notre Dame Cathedral, the game's graphics truly transport players to the world of Quasimodo. In fact, the graphics were so impressive for its time that Quasimodo received rave reviews and won the Best Graphics & Sound award in the VIC-20 Clark Awards in 1984.

Aside from its stunning graphics, Quasimodo also has an engaging soundtrack. The game's main theme, composed by legendary game composer Rob Hubbard, perfectly captures the atmosphere of the game, with its dramatic and intense melodies. Each level also has its own unique soundtrack, adding to the overall immersive experience of the game.

Gameplay wise, Quasimodo's controls may take some getting used to, but once mastered, they give players a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. The game's levels are cleverly designed, requiring players to use their problem-solving skills to progress. Quasimodo also has a unique time-based element that adds an extra layer of challenge, as players must complete each level within a specific time limit to move on to the next.

In addition to the main storyline, Quasimodo also has a bonus round called "The Catacombs," where players can collect treasures while avoiding ghosts and other obstacles. This adds a fun and replayable element to the game, as players can try to beat their high scores in the Catacombs.
