Quink

Quink is a video game in the puzzle genre developed by Ron Dubren and Associates and published by CBS Software originally released in 1985. It is currently playable on DOS, Atari ST, Commodore 64.

Quink is a puzzle game for one or two players. In each round of the game, eight names, places or objects will appear on the screen that are associated in some way. Of the eight objects, two to six will be unrelated to each other. The player has to identify which items are solitary and remove them from the list within the time limit. For each mistake, the player will lose a life; if three lives are lost, the game ends. Points are awarded for correctly identifying the loners; each round contains a target score, so even if the player completes a round without losing all three lives, the target must be met to move on to the next round.

In addition to the normal game rounds, there are also two types of challenge rounds: the single solitaire challenge and the matching challenge. In the solitaire challenge there will be only one solitaire in the game; the goal is to identify it as quickly as possible. A correct choice gives bonus points, or the round ends when an incorrect selection is made or time runs out. In the matchmaker challenge, nine objects are shown; the player has to figure out which object matches the one shown in the center of the board. Correct choices give bonus points.

Quink includes several theme areas, each of which has numerous categories to which items can be associated. The categories are:Fame - includes categories such as Real Names of Movie Stars, Famous Generals, Leaders of Nations, TV Sportsmen, Science Fiction Writers, and more.Pop Culture - includes Dances, Monopoly Avenues, Toys, Mixed Drinks, TV Westerns, Airlines, and more.Imagination - includes Musical Terms, Onomatopoeias, Operas, Robbery Speech, Poetic License, Book Stuff, Cartoon Curses, and more. Science and Nature - includes computer slang, diseases, vegetables, knots, birds, metals, parts of a cell, and more.General Knowledge - seas, cheeses, forms of martial arts, national parks, longest rivers, ancient Greeks, and more.Mixed Bag - all of the above subject areas are included at the same time.The game includes several game options that adjust difficulty and time limits. There is also an advanced game mode; in this mode the player must indicate when all the solitaires have been eliminated instead of the game automatically indicating this.
