Description Rays
Rays is a ZX Spectrum game released in 1987. It is a shoot 'em up in which the player controls a ship known as the "Rays" which must defend itself against an onslaught of enemy ships. The game is split into two parts, the first being a scrolling shooter in which the player must destroy all of the enemy ships, and the second being a top-down shooter in which the player must destroy the enemy's base. The game is notable for its use of colour, which was not often used in ZX Spectrum games at the time.
The first part of the game is a scrolling shooter in which the player must destroy all of the enemy ships. The player begins with three lives, and must navigate their ship through a scrolling landscape while avoiding enemy fire. The player can shoot down enemy ships, and must do so to progress. The second part of the game is a top-down shooter in which the player must destroy the enemy's base. The player must navigate their ship through a maze-like landscape, avoiding enemy fire and destroying enemy targets. The player can also pick up power-ups which will help them in their task.
Rays is a challenging and enjoyable game which makes use of the ZX Spectrum's capabilities. The use of colour adds to the game's aesthetic appeal, and the scrolling and top-down gameplay are both well-implemented. The game is sure to provide hours of fun for players of all ages.
