Description Reflex

Reflex, a fast-paced action game released in 1987 by Amstrad CPC, was truly ahead of its time. Developed by Shaun Southern and Andrew Morris, this game was a hybrid of a platformer and a puzzle game, providing players with a unique and challenging gaming experience.

One of the most notable features of Reflex was the gameplay mechanics. The game utilized the 3D capabilities of the Amstrad CPC and allowed players to move their character in three dimensions, jumping and dodging obstacles in a 3D space. The player controlled a cube-shaped character, which had to navigate through a series of increasingly difficult levels filled with traps, enemies and puzzles.

The graphics and sound of Reflex were also top-notch for its time. The 3D graphics were crisp and detailed, immersing players in a futuristic world. The soundtrack, composed by David Whittaker, perfectly complemented the fast-paced action of the game, adding to the overall excitement and intensity of the gameplay.

The goal of Reflex was simple: to survive and finish each level in the shortest time possible. However, with each level, the difficulty increased exponentially, with more complex obstacles, enemy AI and puzzles. This made the game both challenging and addictive, as players were constantly trying to best their previous records and conquer the game's toughest levels.

The game also featured a two-player mode, where players could compete against each other in split-screen mode, adding an extra level of competition and excitement to the gameplay. This multiplayer feature was ahead of its time and was rarely seen in games from that era.

Another unique aspect of Reflex was its use of password feature. This allowed players to save their progress and continue the game from the last level they had completed. In an era where most games did not have the option to save progress, this feature was a game-changer and made Reflex stand out among its competitors.

Reflex received critical acclaim upon its release, with many praising its gameplay mechanics, graphics, and innovative features. It was a commercial success, selling over 100,000 copies and cementing its place in the history of Amstrad CPC games.
