Regional Power II is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Cosmos Computer and published by Cosmos Computer originally released in 1992. It is currently playable on FM Towns.
Regional Power II takes place entirely in space. However, it is not a space combat or trading simulation, but more akin to grand strategy games such as Koei's historical simulation series, with considerable emphasis on construction and research. The player can choose to stick with the campaign, choose from the five scenarios prepared in it from the start, or create their own scenario on a randomly generated space map. The backgrounds of the prepared scenarios are rather abstract, and the player always controls an unnamed high-ranking commander, who leads a few ordinary politicians and admirals.
Every planet in space that the player controls can be used for colonization. Space stations can be built in orbit and cities, factories and other facilities can be built on the surface. All of these activities are automated and are not shown visually. Players can also build combat spacecraft and equip them with a variety of bodies, engines and weapons such as lasers and missiles. New types of ships and accessories can be researched and eventually produced. Contact with other nations is possible through diplomacy and espionage, but the focus is solely on internal fleet development and fortification of player-controlled planets.
