Description Rekenwonder

Rekenwonder is an educational game released for the Commodore 64 in 1984. The point of the game is to help players improve their mental arithmetic skills. It’s intended for people ages 7-12.

Players enter the game by choosing a character they’d like to play as. The options are a scientist, doctor or space pilot. Players can select one of three levels of difficulty: easy, normal, or hard.

In the game, players encounter a series of maths problems. Depending on the difficulty the player has selected, the problems might involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. To complete the level, the player needs to solve all the challenges in the allotted time and receive the highest total score possible.

The game features a 2.5D top-down graphics style, with backgrounds consisting of pixel art of various stages, such as a laboratory, spaceship and doctor’s office. The characters are composed of sprites and the game’s interface features a minimalistic, but highly functional design.

Rekenwonder also features a variety of sound effects and a short background theme that plays throughout the game. The game has an engaging difficulty curve and a great balance between challenge and reward.

Rekenwonder is an excellent representation of educational games from the 1980s. It’s a fun and intriguing way to practice maths skills while enjoying arcade-like gameplay mechanics. A must-try for fans of retro games.
