In Return of the Incredible Machine: Contraptions, the gameplay is virtually identical to previous games in the series. Players must use a series of mechanical components (almost exactly the set from The Incredible Machine 3) to create a Rube Goldberg-like device that accomplishes a specific goal (such as popping a balloon). There are some 250 puzzles to solve, along with a free-form invention-building mode and a two-player head-to-head mode.
