Sam's Jam

Sam's Jam is a video game in the action genre and published by Abrasco Ltd. originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

Sam's Jam is a side-view single-screen game in which, for reasons unknown, you play Sam, who finds himself in a jam factory eating drops of jam, taking bites out of strawberries and avoiding a giant rat throughout several levels. Above Sam's head is a vat of jam under a conveyor belt that drips jam at regular intervals, and each drop can be eaten by lifting your head upwards. Occasionally, a strawberry travels along the conveyor belt before falling over the edge and down the screen, where Sam can take a bite. As Sam eats, his weight increases, which starts at 10 stones and cannot exceed 16, or Sam will explode. To the right of the screen is a sauna and as Sam stands there he loses weight.

Underneath the floor Sam steps on is a giant rat that moves left and right across the screen, and any jam or strawberry that is lost allows the rat to eat its share. Once the rat has eaten enough, it appears on Sam's floor and the only way to avoid it is to stand on an elevator to the left of the screen to squash the rat. Once the jam vat is empty, Sam enters the sauna to complete the level. Later levels introduce more obstacles to avoid, such as Bouncing Bill, acid rain and barrels to jump over. If Sam touches the rat, obstacles or explodes, he loses one of three lives and has to restart the level.
