Santa's Xmas Caper

Santa's Xmas Caper is a video game in the action genre developed by Zeppelin Games Limited and published by Zeppelin Games Limited originally released in 1993. It is currently playable on DOS, Amiga.

A jump-and-run platformer starring the 'superhero' Santa Claus, equipped with a bunch of snowballs, on his important mission to find the lost Christmas presents.

Zeppelin's rather pathetic attempt to corner the Christmas market is rather like those stores: when the novelty wears off, there's no reason to stick around anymore. The plot seems rather unique and, well, appropriate. Pesky little elves have punctured Santa's Christmas pudding, so he has to lie down for a while in a darkened room. For the sake of the children of the world, who will be quite annoyed to find their socks empty on Christmas Day, it's now up to you to put on your Santa suit, grab your bulging bag of presents and head out into the chimneys of the world. . . There are three levels you must pass before you can congratulate yourself on a job well done. The first is Lapland, Santa's home, with a few Lapps, a bunch of reindeer, a few fish and little else. You have to pick up the sleigh and get all those lovely presents delivered, all the while dealing with pesky elves throwing toy trains and trumpets at you. As you fly over the Atlantic, you'll encounter scientists who don't believe Santa Claus exists, they think you're some kind of alien, so you'll have to avoid their deadly rays. During these two levels you can collect all the little Santas and wine glasses that fly past you - these are the gifts you can use to go down the chimneys in the third and final level. Despite the fun plot and bright VGA graphics, Santa Xmas Caper is severely lacking in gameplay. The sleigh stumbles around the screen, the enemies are few and far between, and in addition to the awkward controls, the game is too easy. I made it to the end of the second level on my first playthrough, and finished the game shortly thereafter.

Overall, Santa's Xmas Caper is pure holiday cheesiness, something that entertains for the length of an average Christmas carol: less than 3 minutes. It might be suitable for young children due to the subject matter and ease of play, but the rest of us would be better off elsewhere.
