Slash RE was released in 2004 to Windows platforms with an adventure shooter game premise. The narrative follows the pair of Void and Reina who are trapped inside an immersive virtual world created by a computer company's "Project NOS". In-between plot segments, the action shifts to a virtual reality landscape filled with monsters, puzzles, and obstacles. Players can move the main characters in three directions while blasting hazards with guns, grenades, and other weapons.

Players were immediately taken with the game's impressive graphics for the time. The 3D rendered details of the characters' faces gave a personal touch to the game, as well as the vibrant, colorful environments. The sound effects were another pleasant surprise, providing realistic gunshots and ricocheting bullets at an ear pleasing volume.

Gameplay was both intuitive and engaging. Controls were easy to learn and aided in the exploration of the game's many secrets. A helpful map was available to aid players in navigating the surprisingly large world.

Although just a short while long, there was enough content for satisfied players. The variety of puzzle and combat posed an entertaining challenge. Enemies ranged from robotic sand worms to humanoid machine gunners, each with their own unique behaviors to learn.

Moreover, the game offered some variety with play style. Players could customize their own characters using a selection of hair styles, clothes, and colors.

Slash RE definitely earned its place in the annals of gaming with its unique graphics, sound, and downright enjoyable gameplay.
