Soccer Challenge

Soccer Challenge is a video game in the sports genre and published by Alternative Software Ltd. originally released in 1990. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

You have been given the opportunity to demonstrate your skills to play in a top soccer team. You have to participate in four skill tests and complete each of them at a satisfactory level and then you can participate in an assault course that includes all four skills. Before the tests you can choose your team color and skill level. The four skill tests are viewed from a 3rd person perspective at a high angle and you use the joystick to control your player. The tests are:

Dribble: You must dribble a ball around several cones with the direction indicated by an arrow within a time limit of two minutes. A small part of the playing field is shown and the screen scrolls as you move towards the goal. If you miss too many cones, the test ends.

Tackling: Players will move diagonally across the screen and you must tackle and take the ball away from them within one minute. If you miss a player or foul him, you lose part of a bar and when it reaches zero the test is over.

Passing: You stand in the center of a circle of players and must pass to a player who blinks in a couple of seconds. The test lasts one minute and if you pass to the wrong player or take too long to pass, you lose part of a bar.

Penalties: You must move the joystick to get close to the ball with the screen showing a small part of the field. As you run towards the ball with the screen scrolling up you can see the goal in front of you with a moving cursor going left and right of the goalkeeper. When you reach the ball, you press the shoot button to kick the ball with the power determined by how fast you approach the ball. You continue to take penalties until the minute is up.
