Description Socket
Socket is a fast-paced platformer in the vein of Sonic the Hedgehog. The evil Time Dominator has built a time machine and uses it to steal treasures from the past, creating a warp in the flow of time. The Time Warp Patrol, created to prevent this kind of thing from happening, sends the special time-traveling duck Socket (or Minutes in the Japanese version) to fix the flow of time and stop Time Dominator.
Socket has reasonably basic abilities: he can jump, kick sideways or upwards, and run fairly fast. Since Socket is a robot, his energy level is continually depleted just from running; luckily, there are a large number of electrical bolts scattered around each stage, which will replenish his health when collected. If enemies hit you, your health bar will drop.
There are seven different themed zones, each with four different parts. The first is the High Speed Zone, which is an entry level leading to the next zone and, as the name suggests, encourages high-speed play. Next is the Athletics Zone, which generally involves a lot of jumping, and the Maze Zone, which focuses on exploration and simply finding a path to the exit. At the end of each Maze Zone, Socket faces Time Dominator in a boss round, and then moves on to the next High Speed Zone.
The game also features a sound trial mode and a time trial mode, in which the High Speed Zone stages can be played without any enemies present and times are recorded.
