Space Pilot

Space Pilot is a video game in the action genre and published by Superior Software Ltd. originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on BBC Micro.

Space Pilot is a clone of the classic Konami game Time Pilot and was developed independently of the contemporary C64 game of the same name with similar gameplay. Players command a plane through different environments, shooting down planes to score points. The nose of the ship can turn left or right, so the ship can move in either direction and take sharp turns to the left or right. The speed is not controlled by the user and is always kept at the same level automatically. The background wraps infinitely both horizontally and vertically, and so it is impossible to find an edge. The game takes place in five time periods: 1916, 1940, 1970, 1984 and 1999. In each level there are different types of enemies, from classic biplanes to spitfires, helicopters, jets and UFOs.

In each scene the player has to shoot eight normal planes to decrease a bar of aircraft icons in the upper left corner. For each icon that disappears a sound is played and a new squadron arrives. Once all the icons have disappeared, a large boss ship appears and must be hit several times to destroy it. After eliminating it, the plane travels back in time to a new period. The player's plane has an unlimited amount of bullets. Enemy planes also have bullets, but some of them can also drop bombs or fire guided missiles. Paratroopers with a red cross appear in certain environments, which can be collected for bonus points. There are four lives in total before the end of the game, but for every 10,000 points a new life is awarded. You cannot have more than five lives. When all time periods have been completed, the cycle of the five scenes is restarted, but the score is kept.
