Description Speed

Third in the Knowledge Adventure series of games and databases, Speed is a fun edutainment title built around a great IMAX movie of the same name, which unfortunately is no longer in theaters.

Like Knowledge Adventure and Sport Adventure, Speed is essentially an encyclopedia for kids about Speed; more specifically, about the physics of Speed and mankind's never-ending quest to go faster and faster. The IMAX movie from which the program is inspired is included in its entirety, and it's a fun and educational 40 minutes even if you don't have the advantage of the huge widescreen that IMAX is famous for. In addition to having the typical movie options, such as recall and fast forward, Speed allows you to pause the movie and go to the corresponding section of the database, where you can find more detailed information about bicycles, airplanes, the physics of light, and other related topics. As in other Knowledge Adventure titles, the text is very well written, concise and accessible to children of all ages. There are several 'Speed games' that are quite interesting, though with little replay value once you solve them.

Overall, Speed is another solid encyclopedia/entertainment title, and one of the last floppy-based multimedia titles before the rise of CD-ROMs. Interesting games and other activities make up for its limited focus. It's worth a look, and the IMAX movie alone deserves Top Dog honors.
