Stained Glass

Stained Glass is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Kent Brewster and published by Kent Brewster originally released in 1991. It is currently playable on DOS.

Stained Glass is a wonderful and original shareware card game that was the inspiration for Nick Schlott's Tesserae, a commercial game published by GameTek in 1991 that features VGA graphics but the same concepts. J. Michael Ambrosio's review says it all:

'Stained Glass is a kaleidoscopic cross between checkers and a game of jumping the pegs. You start with a playing field full of colored checkers. The checkers must be jumped over each other, eliminating the jumped checkers one by one until you reach a single checker. But there's a catch: you can only jump a red tile over a color containing red (such as red, orange or purple), and so on with the other colors.

The result is a mind-bending puzzle that forces you to calculate not only angles, but also color combinations. Stained Glass is unique... in the sense that it uses color as an integral part of the game, not just as a design element. It can definitely be considered a text-mode game, and its author, Kent Brewster, is a pretty good guy. Not only has he invented a unique and challenging game, but he is also a Hugo and Nebula Award-nominated science fiction author and publisher. His website is well worth a visit'.
