Star Lords is a video game in the strategy genre developed by SimTex, Inc. and published by Quicksilver Software, Inc. originally released in 2001. It is currently playable on DOS.
Before there was a game called Master of Orion, SimTex director Steve Barcia presented a prototype to MicroProse Software and video game journalists Alan Emrich and Tom Hughes.
This game is called Star Lords. It looks a lot like Master of Orion, only it's a little unpolished (even by the humble production standards of the almighty MOO). However, the basics are there: you start with a planet in a star system and have to build a galactic empire. This means researching technologies, building ships and colonies and taking on alien civilizations. Various randomly generated opponents will do their best to prevent you from accomplishing your goal.
Released as freeware in 2001, Star Lords is an artifact for those interested in MOO history and game design in general.
