Description Star Sentry
Star Sentry is a fixed shooter video game developed by Bob Smith and published by Atari, Inc. for the Atari 8-bit family of home computers in 1982. The player controls a space ship which must destroy waves of incoming enemies.
The game was one of the first to use Atari's then-new POKEY sound chip, and features digitized speech which says "get ready" at the start of each round. The game was programmed by Bob Smith, who would later go on to create the popular Atari 7800 game Food Fight.
Star Sentry was well-received upon release, with critics praising its graphics, sound, and gameplay. However, the game was later overshadowed by other, more popular titles in the genre such as Galaga and Defender.
Despite its relatively short lifespan, Star Sentry is fondly remembered by many Atari fans and is considered a classic of the 8-bit era.
