Stargate

Stargate is a video game in the puzzle genre developed by Beam Software Pty., Ltd. and published by Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. originally released in 1994. It is currently playable on Game Gear.

The portable version of Stargate is a matching puzzle game, similar to a 3D Tetris. Players drop tiles into a Stargate, and try to stack three identical symbols. In doing so, those tokens are removed. Non-matching tokens simply form higher and higher stacks, and the player loses if the tokens reach the top of the gate. The player also receives an 'address' of seven Stargate symbols at the top of the screen. If three copies of an address symbol are stacked, the stack will be cleared and will count towards completing the address.

There are two game modes that build on this basic concept: skill mode is a single-player challenge in which a player tries to complete as many addresses as he or she can before being overwhelmed. Speed increases as addresses are completed.

Battle Mode can be played against the computer, or against a second player connected with a link cable. In Battle Mode, any stacks you clear are sent through the Stargate and appear on your opponent's side. A height level meter is added to the sides to show how close you and your opponent are to overflowing their gates. You can win by outmaneuvering your opponent (while sending full stacks through him to make things harder for him) or by being the first to complete the direction.
