Description Stellar Track

Like mainframe programs, there are no graphics, only text. Move the joystick left or right to select a command and press the red button. Then move the joystick left or right to set the parameters for that command (if any). First, press Reset or Select to choose how many stars to kill and how many enemies to kill.

Galaxy Map = 6x6 grid, which starts with nothing until you do a long-range scan. The grid then displays a two digit number. The number on the left is the number of aliens in the area. The number on the right is 1 or 0 depending on whether there is a starbase in that area or not. Galaxy maps do not consume energy or stardates.

LR Scan = Long Range Scan. The LR scan is a long-range scan that shows you what is in your quadrant and the one next to it. The LR scan does not consume energy or stardates, but it takes one turn. LR scan does not consume energy or stardates, but takes one turn.

SR scan = Short range scan. This scan will show your star, aliens and starbase. It is necessary to destroy aliens and dock to starbases. Like the LR scan, if there are aliens in your quadrant after using the SR scan, they will attack you. Also, like LR scanning, SR scanning does not consume energy or stardate, but it does require a turn.

Next, select the quadrant and the number of sectors to move. If you want to move within a quadrant, set the number on the left to 0 so as not to leave that quadrant. Use the stardates, energy and turns to warp. If you go to a quadrant where there is only you and a star, the screen will turn green. If you head to a quadrant with aliens or aliens and starbases, the screen will turn red. If you head to a quadrant with only starbases, the screen will turn gray. You cannot warp through the stars. If you try to warp, you will lose the cosmic calendar and energy, but you won't go anywhere.

Photon torpedo = If you hit an enemy with this, you will die in one shot. Choose a direction with the same number as warp. There must be a clear line of sight between you and the enemy, stars are not allowed. You can carry up to 9 torpedoes and you can replenish them. Photon torpedoes do not consume energy or time, and can only be used for one turn.

Unlike photon-phaser torpedoes, you don't need to aim directly at the enemy or tell the game where to fire them; just set the power to three digits and the computer will do the rest. The closer you are to the enemy, the stronger the impact. Phasers use their own energy when firing. They also use shifts.

Status = Status report. Tells you how many Stars, Aliens, Energy Units and Photon Torpedoes you have left, and if you have taken damage, and against what. If you have taken damage, you will see a negative number next to the damage. This is the number of stardates needed to repair the item by itself. If the engine is damaged, you will not be able to get out of that quadrant. Instead, you will have to try to warp a number of quadrants, which will take as long as it takes. It won't get you anywhere, but it can be repaired.

When you dock at a Starbase, all damage is instantly repaired, you are refueled and your torpedoes are replenished. Starbases are randomly placed in the galaxy and cannot be moved or destroyed; there are always two in a galaxy. To dock, go to the quadrant and sector where the base is located and try to dock on top of it.

The switch on the right controls the amount of damage you take. If you are an expert (A), you are twice as likely to take damage as if you are a novice (B).
The switch on the left controls the intensity of the phaser. If you are a Novice (B), the phaser will be twice as powerful as the Alien. If you are an expert (A), the intensity of the phaser will be the same as the Alien.
