Description Super Spellicopter

Super Spellicopter is a fun spelling game designed to motivate children ages 5 to 12 to become good spellers. The game expands on DesignWare's classic 1983 edutainment title Spellicopter by adding several enhancements, most notably the brilliant EGA graphics.

Education is presented in a fun first-person flight simulation. After choosing a list of words, a skill level, a helicopter and a terrain to fly over, it's on to the game proper. The game will display a phrase at the top of the screen with one or more blanks. Your goal is to maneuver the helicopter to find and capture the letters that will spell the correct word that fills in those blanks. You must also land the helicopter safely afterwards. You also have to avoid enemy attacks, which makes the game a bit challenging for younger children, as they must learn to fly, control speed, change direction, fire bullets and missiles, and avoid attacks, all while trying to capture the letters.

The game includes forty lists of ten words each, for a total of 400 words. These are frequently used words that vary in both length and difficulty. One of the best features is that this vocabulary is expandable: you can create your own word lists, which when added expand the vocabulary available in the game and improve the spelling lists. This makes the game infinitely expandable (although there may be an internal limit somewhere that I don't know about), and a great way to monitor your kids' progress by gradually adding more difficult words to the game.

Overall, Super Spellicopter is an excellent spelling game that parents should know about. It will probably be too difficult for children under the age of 7-8 due to the flight controls, but elementary school children in general should find the game quite fun.
