Superstar Ping Pong

Superstar Ping Pong is a video game in the sports genre developed by DesignStar Consultants, Inc. and published by U.S. Gold Ltd. originally released in 1986. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

This is a table tennis game in which one player can play against the computer or two players against each other. It is similar to Imagine's Ping Pong, but offers more game options. The table is displayed in 3D and only the bat is visible (no player or hand). You can choose whether the net is split horizontally or vertically. Hitting the ball is quite simple, just press the fire button when the ball gets close to your bat. Depending on whether you hit the ball too early or too late, it comes back at different angles.

While the program loads, you have a menu where you can choose various game options such as bat control (computer-guided or manual - beginners should start with computer-guided), game speed and whether you want to change sides of the table after each player has served. The most interesting option is that you can give up to 20 skill points to 6 different hitting options (like forehand, backhand, smash, etc. ). Normally the program automatically gives you 12 points in total (2 for each of the 6 stroke options) but you can change this in any way you want up to the maximum of 20 points. Therefore, you can increase or decrease your skills for your forehand, backhand and stroke and the way you personally prefer your table tennis game.

The rules are the official table tennis rules from the 80's, the first player to reach 21 points wins the game/set (the option settings allow you to play 1, 2, 3 or even more sets for a match). After choosing your side of the table, and the color of your bat the action begins.
