Tank Wars

Tank Wars is a video game in the strategy genre originally released in 1990. It is currently playable on DOS.

Tank Wars is a shareware game for two to ten players based on the same ideas as Artillery and its better known cousin Scorched Earth. Either player can be controlled by the computer and there are seven different styles of opponent. The game can be played with the keyboard or mouse, and the length of a game can be set between one and ninety-nine games.

Players command tanks that are placed in the randomly generated landscape. At the top of the screen are controls that select the angle of the shot, the power of the shot, the type of weapon being launched, as well as information showing who is firing, the wind direction and speed. At the end of each round, players who have successfully destroyed their competitors can use the points earned to purchase additional weapons; there are eighteen different weapons in the game, along with two guidance systems and three defense systems.

The game has many configuration options that change how the ground crumbles, what happens if a shot goes off the screen, whether shots and or their traces are visible and much more, along with a team play option. The game has sound and is optional.
