The ZX Spectrum game: Technician Ted: The Mega-Mix was released in 1986. The aim of the game is to guide Ted, the technician, through a number of rooms in a factory, repairing machines and avoiding hazards. The player must use a variety of tools and components to repair the machines, and avoid being electrocuted, crushed or otherwise injured by the machinery.
The game is split into a number of levels, each with a different layout and different machines to repair. Ted starts each level with a set number of lives, and loses a life if he is injured by the machinery or if he runs out of time to repair a machine. Some levels also have a time limit, in which case the player must complete the level before the time runs out.
The game is notable for its use of sound and graphics to convey a realistic approximation of a working factory environment. The machines make a variety of noises as they operate, and Ted makes grunting and panting sounds as he runs around the levels. The graphics are basic, but effective, and the use of colour is well done.
Technician Ted: The Mega-Mix is an enjoyable and challenging game that is well worth a try for fans of platform games and puzzle games.
