Tetrapod

Tetrapod is a video game in the action genre and published by Acornsoft Limited originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on BBC Micro.

Tetrapod is an arena shooter game with controls similar to Asteroids, in which the player can move forward, shoot, and turn left and right. In each stage, the player has to defeat a series of creatures ranging from killer bees in the early levels to red devils and poisonous orbs in the later ones. What makes this more complicated is that the screen is filled with pods that when fired hatch a lizard that immediately goes after the nearest creature, regardless of whether it is the player or one of the enemies. The killer bees can be killed by a direct hit from the player while the other creatures can only be killed by the lizards. The player should avoid hitting them as they will then chase him harder. Lizards cannot be killed, but when shot they return to their original pod form. Shots fired will bounce around the screen until they hit something. This includes the player, so the player not only has to watch out for enemies and their shots, but also for his own bullets.
