The Banyon Wars

The Banyon Wars is a video game in the strategy genre developed by William Soleau and published by William Soleau originally released in 1990. It is currently playable on DOS.

The Banyon Wars is a shareware variant of single-player Risk.

In this implementation the player is pitted against the computer across a chain of islands. There are three races, the Cronons, the Tabors and the Hilites, fighting for control of the Banyon island chain. The human player always plays as the Cronons, who play light blue.
After a few setup questions, the game proceeds by assigning armies to each of the island territories. Next, each race takes turns planning and acting out its strategy. In turn, each race distributes new armies, launches attacks and, at the end of an attack phase, may perform some troop movements.
An unusual feature of this game is the inclusion of random events that may not occur during a game, these include catastrophes such as earthquakes, floods, volcano rebellions and good weather that increases the number of armies produced by some territories.
Another unusual feature occurs when the player is eliminated, then he is given the option to concede the game or let the computer complete the game.

The game is controlled entirely with the keyboard, has optional sound and a save game feature. Computer opponents have seven levels of difficulty.
