Description The Fury

In 1996 the first Rim Race was held on a specially built track called Rim in the Arizona desert, 20 km in diameter and 60 km long, after eight years of construction. Over the next two weeks more than 1,000 riders competed, with many fatalities, and the final race left three riders in contention, eventually won by Seya Alkli. Over the next 45 years, the race took many forms and locations, being shown throughout the Solar System by a television network, and finally in 2045 the race is shown in the form that people (and aliens) are familiar with.

There are 12 rims surrounding a fabricated planet called Devs that orbits Jupiter and each rim is 100 km in diameter and 300 km long. You play as a driver trying to make your way through this violent driving sport by driving as fast as you can, destroying other drivers and avoiding getting killed yourself. In addition to the main competitors, there are drivers called Noids who are novice drivers hoping to survive to become real competitors. These are the drivers you have to kill to maintain the quotas set by the race officials. The money you earn during your time allows you to buy better cars and weapons including flamethrowers, missiles and rail guns. The three types of races in which you can compete are

Race against the clock: This is a race against the clock in which you try to beat a qualifying time and finish the race. Any vehicle destroyed increases the bounty on your head, but it also increases the money you earn.

Kill Race: You keep driving until you reach your quota of dead Noids.

Tag Race: A random vehicle is declared 'It' and must touch another vehicle while a cross constantly damages the 'It' vehicle until it is destroyed or the 'It' is passed. If a vehicle is destroyed while being 'It', then another vehicle is chosen at random.

The game is viewed from the side at a high angle with the screen scrolling as you move your vehicle. You must always drive excitingly or aggressively because if you don't, the track will turn red and a crosshair will appear and try to destroy you. You have to start destroying Noids or drive faster to make the crosshair disappear. While driving around trying to destroy vehicles and staying alive, you must also keep an eye on your fuel and damage meters, which can be increased and fixed after each race. The ultimate goal for all drivers is to reach The Fury which occurs at a certain part of the track and at a certain speed that makes a vehicle disappear. No one knows what happens at this point, so can you be the first to experience it and tell the tale?
