The Goonies was an action-adventure platformer developed by Konami and released in 1986 for the MSX platform. The game was based on the 1985 movie of the same name and featured a number of familiar characters such as Mikey, Data, Chunk, Mouth, and Sloth.

The game revolves around the group of kids trying to locate the hidden treasure of famed pirate One-Eyed Willie. As with the movie, the Goonies must adventure throughout the game's levels, searching for items, battling enemies, and eventually confront a giant octopus in order to make it to the final level.

The objective of the game is to help Mikey and the Goonies collect all the clues needed to find the Pirate's hidden stash of treasure. During the game, Mikey and the Goonies must fight off adversaries such as the Fratelli family, Skeleton Men, and monsters.

Each stage is filled with a range of interactive objects, enemies, and puzzles. The player must navigate around the levels, avoiding the obstacles, while seeking out items such as pieces of map with locations marked. Power-ups such as drinks and food can be found to improve Mikey and the Goonies' health.

In addition, special items scattered throughout the levels, such as a special secret amulet, can be collected. Throughout the game's levels, there are areas where the Goonies can play minigames in order to gain items, such as a gold doubloon or a key to a treasure gate.

The Goonies was a fun and inventive game and its cartoonlike visuals were colorful and detailed. The gameplay was engaging and the challenge varied, which kept players coming back for more. The game still has a following to this day and remains a classic for fans and retro-gamers alike.
