The Hound of Shadow

The Hound of Shadow is a video game in the adventure genre developed by Eldritch Games and published by Electronic Arts, Inc. originally released in 1989. It is currently playable on DOS, Amiga, Atari ST.

A text adventure game set in themes of HP Lovecraft in the 1920s.

The game's character generation routine was unusual. It was an ambitious project that was intended to carry over into a game series called 'Timeline' that never came to fruition. You had to guide the character's career through the First World War, the professions, while getting skill points to distribute. There weren't many games that had skills, let alone the plethora of skills to choose from in this game.

The text part of the game is a supernatural thriller in which you have to escape the curse of The Hound of Shadow in 1920's London. It starts with a friend taking you to a seance to keep you awake. Strange things happen and you discover that you are under a curse. You research history and lore in musty bookstores and the London Library to gather information about the Hound. As you play, you are likely to learn about mythology as well as the occult.

However, there is a time limit: the Hound will eventually catch up with you if you don't get to work.
