Thief

Thief is a video game in the action genre and published by Datamost, Inc. originally released in 1981. It is currently playable on Apple II.

Thief is an action game in the style of Berzerk. The player finds himself in a maze full of robots and has to find his way through four levels of gameplay. It is viewed from a top-down perspective and the player can move and shoot in eight directions.

The goal is simply to destroy as many robots as possible to get a high score. There are three ways to kill the robots. The first is to simply shoot them with the laser gun. The second way is to wait for a supernatural blob to appear. The blob kills everything in its path, both the robots and the player, so the player has to escape quickly to avoid it since it cannot be killed. The third way is to trick the robots into destroying themselves. After getting 400 points, the robots start shooting at the player. With the right positioning it is possible for them to accidentally shoot each other. The player has three lives and loses one life by getting shot or touching a robot or the maze walls. Reaching 2000 points gives an extra life. Bonus points are received when all robots on the screen are killed.

Despite the game's title, it does not involve any kind of sneaking or stealing.
