Topper the Copper

Topper the Copper is a video game in the action genre and published by English Software Company, The originally released in 1985. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

Topper is a policeman in the shape of a top hat with arms and legs. A crime has occurred and it is up to Topper to find the clues to apprehend the criminal among seven suspects and send him to jail within a time limit. The area is a set of rooms on four levels connected by corridors and an elevator system. The rooms are sets of platforms with a series of safes that may or may not contain a clue to the crime. Collect them all until you have eight clues. One of the safes also contains the key to the jail. In the rooms there are bad guys and obstacles to avoid, as a touch decreases part of your energy bar, but it can be replenished by visiting the police station. If you lose energy, it's game over.

The elevator system consists of baskets that go up and down to the lower level and up to the upper level. If you fail to jump into a basket, you will fall into the boiler at the bottom and it will be game over. Once you have collected all eight clues you can go to the courthouse where you are given a random riddle and using your clues you must answer it, get it right and you can take the criminal to jail.

The platform rooms are shown on one screen and the corridor sections are sliding screen and viewed from the side. A joystick is used to control Topper.
