Trivia Quest

Trivia Quest is a video game in the educational genre and published by Royal Software originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on Atari 8-bit.

The empire of Xandor has been besieged by dark forces. In desperation, King Gaelyn sent a plea for help to the lords of the castles in his land. From each castle, three subjects - a prince, a knight and a page - were selected to face riddles and dragons.

This is the origin of the board game Trivia Quest. After selecting the difficulty and your castle, each of the participating players (one to four, no computer players) has to choose the correct answer among four options in the first so-called 'wisdom round'. This is necessary to accumulate enough gold and food to enter the game map with a character and be able to progress in the game. An incorrect answer initiates the next player's turn.

On the board itself, movement also depends on the answer to the questions posed by falling into one of the Trivia Question boxes. These are divided into four categories (for example, a TV box means a TV, literature or movie question), and the faster a question has been answered correctly, the more boxes the player's character can move. It is possible to switch between the three different characters as long as enough gold has been accumulated. There are also special squares indicating the dragon's lairs. These trigger an arcade sequence in which additional gold can be earned if the dragon is defeated, but in case of a loss the dragon also takes the player's gold. Fighting ability is influenced by character type, with the page being the weakest. Finally, there are boxes and situations that can lead to a 'duel of wisdom', i.e. a battle of questions player against player.The quest ends when all three characters have reached a house castle, the winner being the player with the most gold.
