Universal Warrior

Universal Warrior is a video game in the action genre developed by Merit Studios (Europe) Limited and published by Merit Studios, Inc. originally released in 1995. It is currently playable on DOS, Amiga.

Universal Warrior (or The Machines, as is the official title of the PC version) is a top-down maze shooter in the vein of Gauntlet and Alien Breed, with added economic elements.

The game alternates between team management and real action in the levels, in which a remote-controlled robot roams labyrinthine maps and shoots mechanical enemies. With the money earned in these sci-fi competitions, you can buy upgraded equipment in five categories, making the robot more powerful, more maneuverable and less easy to damage. On the other hand, taking damage means you have to spend money on repairs. This encourages careful and efficient play.

The game can be played solo, in two-player competitive mode or in split-screen cooperative mode.
