Volcano

Volcano is a video game in the action genre and published by Acornsoft Limited originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on BBC Micro.

Four men are stranded on the side of an erupting Volcano and the player must rescue them with his emergency helicopter. Volcano consists of a single side view screen in which the crater is in the center, the helicopter landing pad to the right and the men to be rescued to the left. What the player has to do is to fly over the Volcano, pick up the men one at a time and return them to the pad. This is not an easy task, as a lot of rocks are thrown from the crater and these have to be shot or avoided. Touching a rock or crashing into the ground will cause the helicopter to be destroyed and the player loses a life. To make matters worse, the player has to work quickly as molten lava spews out of the mouth of the Volcano towards the stranded men. If a man dies he will turn into a ghost that will go after the player. Ghosts must be avoided as they are indestructible. The player has three helicopters at his disposal and gets an extra one after scoring 5,000 points.
