Description Vulcan: The Tunisian Campaign

Vulcan is the third entry in R. T. Smith's World War II trilogy, which includes Arnhem and Desert Rats. It simulates the Tunisia Campaign in 1942-43 from the arrival of Task Force 'Torch' and its rush to Tunisia, to the final battle of 'Operation Vulcan'. There are 5 armies (3 Allied and 2 Axis) and 5 scenarios, including the battles of Kasserine and Mareth. Each scenario has several preconditions to start with, including Axis control over Malta, Axis capture of Bone, DAK (Deutsches Afrika Korps) destroyed, desert armies delayed and French neutrality.

The game is played on a turn-based scrolling map. The player selects units and gives them orders. Units move on the grid of rectangular cells. Objects in the landscape influence movement. For example, mountainous terrain allows hidden movement, or the river blocks the way. The air attack phase is possible between turns.

The game comes with a detailed instruction booklet and includes historical notes on the campaign, maps and photographs. Two players representing the Allies and Axis can be the computer or a human.
