White Viper

White Viper is a video game in the action genre and published by Sparklers originally released in 1986. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

There you were, La White Viper, walking with a princess, when a demon appeared and took her away. You tried in vain to fight off the attack, but unfortunately you failed and together with your armor and sword, have been taken to the castle of an evil wizard. Now you must cross the land, enter the castle and rescue the princess in this five-part game. The game is viewed from the side at a high angle and you must complete all five parts by collecting your sword and armor along the way to take on the wizard and bring the princess home and marry her.

In the first part you must fight off the attack of various demons with your sword. You must stay close to the princess and when a demon appears you must kill it. You start the game with two lives, but for each demon killed you get an extra life. Every time you don't kill a demon, they take away the princess, then your armor and finally they take away your sword. Once you have seven lives, they take away the princess and your possessions.

The second part is in a field and now you can see a horse that needs to be captured so you can ride to the castle. However, every time you approach the horse, it runs away, so you have to collect the fences at the bottom of the screen to try to lock it up. As you place the fences, the demons appear and take away parts of the fences. Once you have captured the horse, you can continue riding towards the castle.

The third part now moves from left to right and as you ride you approach a swamp. In the swamp there are islands and you have to jump on your horse on the islands to get to the other side. Also on the islands there are your sword and armor pieces to collect but only if a piece is flashing. If the sword or armor pieces are not flashing, you cannot pick up that item. If you fall into the water you lose a life and there is also a swamp fairy that occasionally appears and picks you up and returns you to the beginning of the swamp.

Part 4 has you outside the castle ready to enter, but your horse is very hungry, so you must allow the horse to find and eat 30 bushes of grass before you can enter the castle. As you ride the horse across the screen, cannonballs are fired at you, so you must dodge them while trying to get your horse to eat the grass. If you get hit by a cannonball, you lose a life.

The fifth and final part of the game takes you inside the castle, inside a large hall with ten doors. Behind the doors is the princess, but also the evil wizard and his demons. You must open each door to find the Princess but if it is the wizard or a demon then you must kill it before they can cast a spell or you will lose a life if you are hit by the spell. When you find the princess you will have completed the game and you can marry and become king.
