World Series Baseball '96

World Series Baseball '96 is a video game in the sports genre developed by BlueSky Software, Inc. and published by SEGA of America, Inc. originally released in 1996. It is currently playable on Genesis.

World Series Baseball '96 is a continuation of the previous two games in the Genesis series with rosters and statistics for the 1995 MLB season, as well as the 1996 season schedule. It has all 700 players and 28 teams and stadiums. Game types include Exhibition, League, Playoffs, Batting Practice, Homerun Derby and Classic Homerun Derby. There is also the ability to play an All-Star game. Trading can be turned on or off and the season length options are 13, 26, 52, 104 and 162.

Gameplay and visuals are similar to the previous game in the series. Batting is shown from a rear view with three options: contact, normal or power. The player has to time the swing to make contact. When pitching, the three options are splitter, slider and fastball. In launch mode a rectangle is displayed to determine the position of the ball. You can also step out of the rectangle to deceive the batter and accuracy is determined through the batter's statistics. During the game, fielding can be done manually or by the computer. Runners have the option of backing up, advancing or sliding. The three sliding options are hook, pop-up and head. Various alignment and strategy options can also be changed during the game. The cartridge has a battery for saving and resuming a league.
