In 2000, Worminator made its official launch, giving gamers seeking a one-of-a-kind kind of blasting powerplay an unforgettable experience. The game centers on one central character, the Worminator, who takes on hordes of robotic enemy worms, known as Glurmoids, as they project themselves through the game’s ten levels towards the goal of freeing the human race from enslavement at their hands.
Each level of the game presents the Worminator with a new challenge, as Glurmoids zap, slither, acid-squirt, and boast a variety of other powerful attacks in an effort to take out the Worminator and interfere with the mission. That said, the Worminator is well-equipped to handle this onslaught - starting out with just a basic gun, he can also assemble and upgrade to bigger and more powerful rapid-firing weapons like flamethrowers and sledgehammers.
On top of the Worminator’s killer armaments, the game also provides power-ups and bonuses to collect along the way. These range from coins scattered around in strategic locations, to advanced weapons like laser beams and nuclear warheads. Along with these, there are also secret weapons to find, including the Worminator Portable Nuclear Devastator, allowing for an even more powerful arsenal than viewed on-screen.
The game also offers multiple ways to play - for the solo gamer, single-player mode offers the opportunity to channel their blasting prowess in the fight against the Glurmoids. For more collaboration, there’s a two-player Cooperative Mode, with each taking on a particular stage, or a Versus Mode where up to four players can join in a different kind of battle for supremacy.
Worminator offers an enjoyable, intense battle-style game, with its mix of enemy variety, weapons, and various ways to play. Through it, gamers can take on the role of the Worminator and assume command of its Blasting powerplay as they work together to free mankind.
