Zenon

Zenon is a video game in the action genre and published by Impact Software originally released in 1988. It is currently playable on BBC Micro, Electron.

The planet Zenon is so dangerous that only the most heroic space adventurers would dare to land there. It is filled with more evil creatures against which no one can stand a chance. But the player's goal is just that. He has to make his way through 250 levels and get to the heart of Zenon.

Zenon is a side-scrolling shooter game. The player is transported to the left and has to make his way through each of the game's levels (which are ten times the length of the screen) while shooting or avoiding the various monsters and strange objects that cross his path. To do this, he has a jetpack that allows him to gain some height. At the beginning, the player has a simple laser gun, but by collecting power-ups you can get better weapons, such as a double-shot laser or an atomic gun. Among the monsters the player will encounter are snake-like terrapods, giant steel eyes called orbitoids and walking machines called roamodrons. There are also several oddly shaped objects that bounce through the air. Upon contact with any of the critters, energy is reduced until it is all gone and the player loses one of his four lives. Energy is automatically recharged if the player avoids the bugs long enough or picks up an energy cell.

In addition to the single-player mode, there is also a two-player mode in which players fight the creatures simultaneously.
