Checkers is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Activision, Inc. and published by Activision, Inc. originally released in 1980. It is currently playable on Atari 2600.
Checkers is the computer version of the popular board game and follows the same rules.
The object of the game is to remove all of your opponent's pieces from the 8x8 board. If your piece jumps over an opponent's piece, the opponent's piece is eliminated from the game (if your piece can jump over an opponent's piece, you must make that move). At the beginning of the game, a piece can only move diagonally forward until it reaches the other side of the board, after which it becomes a 'king move' and can move forward or backward.
The game can be played by one player against the computer or by two players against each other (there are three skill levels).
