Description Croisades: Édition 2000

Croisades: Édition 2000 places the player at the heart of the medieval expeditions to the Holy Land. The campaign begins in the Europe of the eleventh century, where armies, nobles and religious leaders prepare to undertake the long journey toward Jerusalem. From the departure of the first contingents to the establishment of Christian states in the East, the game follows the principal stages of the Crusades and presents a broad historical setting shaped by faith, politics, commerce and military ambition. Several scenarios allow the player to approach the period from different positions, including the leaders of the Western armies and the powers defending their territories.

The game combines strategic administration with military operations. Before an expedition can begin, troops must be recruited, supplied and directed across a map divided into regions, roads and important settlements. Food, money, reinforcements and the loyalty of commanders influence the progress of an army, while weather, distance and hostile territory can turn a successful advance into a costly retreat. Castles and cities serve as bases for gathering forces, protecting trade routes and preparing further attacks. Diplomacy also plays an important role: agreements, tributes and alliances may provide temporary security, but relations can change quickly when rival factions pursue their own objectives.

When opposing armies meet, the action moves to a tactical battlefield. Units are arranged according to their role, with infantry forming the core of the line, mounted knights providing powerful charges and missile troops weakening enemy formations from a distance. The position of an army, the condition of its soldiers and the abilities of its commanders all affect the result. Strong defensive positions can halt a larger force, while an imprudent assault against walls or fortified camps may lead to heavy losses. Victories bring territory and prestige, but each campaign must be balanced against the need to preserve experienced troops and maintain supply lines.

The visual presentation uses illustrated medieval maps, parchment-style panels and detailed representations of fortresses, settlements and military camps. Menus are arranged to keep strategic information accessible, with symbols and portraits identifying commanders, resources and political factions. Battles provide a more animated view of troop movements while retaining the clear, functional appearance of a strategy title. A period-inspired musical score accompanies the principal screens, supported by martial themes, ceremonial passages and battlefield effects. The result is a deliberate and methodical experience in which progress depends less on a single victorious encounter than on careful preparation, controlled expansion and the ability to maintain an army far from home.
