Attack of the Killer Tomatoes

Released in 1986, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is a classic MSX game that captured the hearts of players with its unique and original concept. Developed by Imagineering Inc., the game is based on the popular cult film of the same name. It was one of the first licensed games for the MSX and it quickly gained popularity among gamers. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is a side-scrolling action game with a twist. Players take on the role of Chad Finletter, a fearless hero who must navigate through levels filled with dangerous tomatoes, all determined to destroy him. The game is set in the town of San Zucchini, which has been overrun by evil mutant tomatoes. It is up to Chad to save the town from these killer vegetables and their leader, the Tomato King. One of the most notable features of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is its unique and quirky animation style. The visuals are bright and colorful, with a cartoonish feel that perfectly matches the game's offbeat theme. The graphics are well-detailed and the animations are smooth, making for an enjoyable visual experience. The sound effects and background music add to the overall atmosphere of the game, creating a fun and immersive gameplay. The gameplay of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is fast-paced and challenging. Players must run, jump, and use a wide range of weapons to defeat the various types of tomatoes, including flying tomatoes, jumping tomatoes, and exploding tomatoes. The game features eight levels, each with its own set of obstacles and enemies. At the end of each level, players must face the Tomato King in an epic boss battle. With each level, the difficulty increases, providing a satisfying challenge for players. Aside from its entertaining gameplay, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes also has a unique and humorous storyline. The game is filled with comedic elements and references to the original film, adding to its appeal and making it stand out from other MSX games of its time. The game's humorous approach to the classic "save the world from evil" concept is what makes it an unforgettable gaming experience. In addition, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes also offers a two-player mode, allowing friends to team up and battle the killer tomatoes together. This adds a competitive element to the game, making it a hit among multiplayer enthusiasts. The game also has a high replay value, as players can try to beat their own high scores or compete with friends to see who can save San Zucchini with the highest score.

Tearaway Thomas

Amiga 1993
You control Thomas, a strange-looking but vaguely cute animal, in an ultra-fast platform game. There are 50 levels, divided into 5 groups of 10. Each has a certain number of gems, and your task is to collect a certain number of them (for example, level 2 has 55 and you need at least 40) and then find the exit, all within the time limits. Yellow gems are worth 50 points and purple ones 100, although purple ones don't seem to be more precarious, and the total makes no distinction, so this is by color more than anything else. Once you get the required amount, the gems double in value, tempting you to keep exploring. The levels are infested with adorable looking baddies, such as birds and bears, which you can't kill, and which you have to avoid, as contact with them costs you time as Thomas gets up. You can jump on the heads of some of them, which gives a small points bonus. The layouts include ropes to climb, moving platforms, and more. Some levels are completely vertical scrolling, where you advance along tree ledges or similar. If you run out of time, you lose a life, but the level doesn't restart, so you keep the number of gems collected and have a new time. This means you are much less likely to lose a second life in the level, just like in Chase HQ.
