Das Stundenglas
Das Stundenglas was the first game from the small German Bavarian company Weltenschmiede. It is an illustrated text adventure, all in German, in the style of the Magnetic Scrolls games, combining story with many graphical frames. At the beginning of the game, you find yourself in a small town in the year 2012. Human civilization as we know it no longer exists. The world has suffered an ecological catastrophe and only a few people survive; the world is populated by thieves and looters. In a small toy shop, access to a portal to another world is found. A great fantasy adventure unfolds about the mysteries of time and 'Das Stundenglas'. . . .
The game, overall, is very well written, filled with many puzzles, riddles and an interesting storyline that should provide many hours of fun for those interested in the genre. It does have some weaknesses in technical terms. The parser is usable, but certainly not state of the art compared to other similar English speaking games. Also the graphics could be of better quality.
Nevertheless, it was a good game for a fledgling company, and Weltenschmiede improved with its following adventures, Die Kathedrale, Hexuma and most recently Die H๖hlenwelt-Saga. The game was released as freeware in 1998, with novel and copy protection included in the archive.
