Deviants

Deviants is a video game in the action genre and published by Players Software originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

100,000 years ago, the planet Krauze belonged to a race called Deviants and they had conquered the surrounding planets, but their thirst for power eventually led to a civil war among them. This nearly wiped out the race, so the handful of survivors left the planet, never to be seen again. Now, in the year 5150, humans have begun to look for other areas of space to colonize and have chosen the planet Krauze, where remnants of the previous occupants can still be seen with ruined cities and monuments. The colony has begun to thrive but has recently been attacked with the origin of a giant asteroid with a Battlestaion belonging to the Deviants. You are part of a team of starfighters sent by the colony to place nuclear devices on the Battlestaion, but the mission has nearly gone wrong and the team has been eliminated, except for you, just as the last device was placed. Now it's up to you to prepare all the devices and get out of the Battlestaion to save the humans.

Deviants is a side-screen run-and-gun game with platforming elements in which you must move through the various screens in search of the nuclear devices you must prepare. As you run through the combat station, you will encounter Deviants with your weapon, which has limited ammunition, but you can find more and use it. If you get a Deviant you lose some of your energy and when it runs out it's game over. When you find a nuclear device, the game changes to a puzzle game where you are presented with a row of valves and they all have to light up before a timer reaches zero. You press a number that affects one valve, but also affects the others. If you fail to light the device, the carbon unit is terminated and the game is over.
