Earl Weaver Baseball II is a video game in the sports genre developed by Mirage Graphics, Inc. and published by Electronic Arts, Inc. originally released in 1991. It is currently playable on DOS.

Earl Weaver Baseball, one of the best baseball series ever, had however a very short life: only 2 games were released in 5 years. In all aspects, both games are pioneers in the genre: great graphics and sounds (for their time, of course), incredible customizability, and incredible play value make EWB one of the best baseball games ever made. Baseball Sims have come a long way since then.

The original Earl Weaver Baseball deserves to go down in history as THE first sports game to successfully combine strong arcade gameplay with rock solid stats. Prior to its release, sports games tended to be simplistic arcade games or dry statistical models. Earl Weaver brought both approaches together and gave birth to the statistical/simulation model.

Earl Weaver Baseball 2 continued the high standard set by its predecessor by becoming one of the first baseball simulators to employ a more varied sound. You could even see a manager emerge from the dugout from time to time to discuss a decision. One of the strengths of the game is its configurability. One can create the perfect player who always delivers or a stadium of incredible proportions.

It is also possible to play in or out of the league. Seasons can be of any length, although players looking for automatic playoff modes will be disappointed. Players from different eras can compete on the same field, which helps baseball fans argue about who was the best center fielder of all time, etc. Fields from different eras are also available that take into account variables such as wind and artificial turf. With impeccable gameplay, solid controls and virtually unlimited replayability, EWB2 is a game that deserves to be on every baseball fan's hard drive. While the graphics are a bit dated, the gameplay and stats engine are exceptional. Perhaps some game companies could learn from older games. Many games today can't even come close to the EWB series. The creativity and intuitive design made the game infinitely enjoyable. No matter how many times you play, there is always something else to do. A true classic, no doubt.
